LASSEN! MARCH 13, 2020
Kyle and I met during the spring quarter of our freshman
year of college at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, both studying
engineering, back in 2004. We were in a three person group together for the
entire quarter and then never talked again during school. I switched my major
from biomedical engineering to biology shortly after and we never had classes
overlap for the next three years.
In 2013, I did a triathlon in Decatur, IL and
was interviewed on the local news channel for winning my age group. Kyle happened
to see this and reached out, where we then realized that we had been living
about 10 minutes apart for a few years. We began talking, and 11 years later,
have never stopped. We got engaged in 2014, married in May of 2015 (a week
before Kyle turned 30 so he could say he got “married in his 20’s”),
honeymooned in Utah, and then moved to Sacramento, California a week later. To
say it was a whirlwind of a month was an understatement. Our relationship was where I first began realizing that God's timing is always perfect. This would be a truth I have kept coming back to over and over.

After 3 years in California, we had a chance to move back home, and settled in Indianapolis. In the summer of 2019, we found out we were pregnant! It was a really great pregnancy and nothing went awry until 37 weeks. I went in for my weekly checkup and my blood pressure was very high. My doctor sent me to the hospital to be monitored, expecting me to go home. Instead, I had our beautiful, healthy baby boy, Lassen Jerald, the next morning, March 13, 2020. We named him after a volcano we had climbed out in California, Lassen Peak, in Lassen National Park. The world shut down the next day due to Covid. We lived in this sweet bubble with our newborn, blissfully unaware of the chaos happening in the world.
